Shigeru Umebayashi (梅林茂 Umebayashi Shigeru) is a Japanese composer born February 19, 1951 in Kitakyushu, Fukuoka). Once the leader of Japan’s legendary new-wave rock band EX, composer Shigeru Umebayashi began scoring films in 1985 when the band broke up. He has more than 40 Japanese and Chinese films to his credit and is perhaps best known in the West for his score for director Wong Kar-wai’s In the Mood for Love (2001). Umebayashi also scored Wong Kar-wai’s long-awaited 2046 (2004).

The Godfather is a 1972 American gangster film based on the 1969 novel of the same name by Mario Puzo and directed by Francis Ford Coppola from a screenplay by Puzo, Coppola, and Robert Towne (uncredited).It stars Marlon Brando, Al Pacino, James Caan, Richard S. The story spans ten years from 1945 to 1955 and chronicles the fictional Italian American Corleone crime family. The Godfather received Academy Awards for Best Picture, Best Actor, and Best Adapted Screenplay, and has been selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry. Lisa Gerrard (born April 12, 1961) is an Australian musician, singer and composer who gained international renown as part of the music group Dead Can Dance together with Brendan Perry. Her career spans from 1981 to the present, and she has been involved in a wide range of projects. Gerrard received a Golden Globe award and her score for the 2000 film Gladiator received an Academy Award nomination. She both sings and is instrumentalist for much of her work, most prolifically using the Yangqin (a Chinese hammered dulcimer).

Film career

Lisa Gerrard’s first experience in composing music for a film, came with the 1989 Spanish film El Niño de la Luna, directed by Agustín Villaronga. The film score was composed by Dead Can Dance and the film featured Lisa Gerrard in her first acting role. El Niño de la Luna describes the story of a young orphan with special powers, David, escaping an institution with the help of a fellow institute inmate, Georgina, played by Lisa Gerrard.

Lisa participated in a number of scores but came to fame as a film composer after recording The Insider in 1999, with Pieter Bourke, and Gladiator in 2000, with Hans Zimmer.

In 2005 she collaborated with Ennio Morricone for Fateless.

Gustavo A. Santaolalla is an Argentine musician, producer and composer whose musical style frequently combines elements of rock, soul, African rhythms and Latin American folk. His started his professional music career in 1967 with the group Arco Iris.

In the late 1990s he transferred his efforts to film soundtracks, producing albums for the films Amores Perros, 21 Grams and The Motorcycle Diaries.
